Why Chiropractors Need CPR, First Aid & BBP Training

By Sheila Gemma ยท February 18, 2026

Chiropractic adjustments, while generally safe, can occasionally trigger vasovagal episodes, syncope, or โ€” in rare cases โ€” more serious cardiovascular events. Being prepared to respond effectively protects both patients and the practice.

California Licensure Requirements

The California Board of Chiropractic Examiners requires CPR certification as a condition of initial licensure for new applicants. For practicing chiropractors, CPR and First Aid training represents a professional standard and is recognized as continuing education by many approved CE providers.

AHA-Certified CPR & First Aid Training

Our AHA-certified instructors provide CPR and First Aid training covering cardiac emergency response, syncope management, and general first aid for in-office emergencies. Certifications are issued same-day, with official AHA eCards delivered digitally within a few days.

Common Emergencies in Chiropractic Settings

Staff should be prepared to respond to vasovagal syncope, cardiac events, severe allergic reactions, and fall injuries โ€” emergencies that can occur during or following chiropractic treatment.

Bloodborne Pathogen Training

Chiropractors who also offer acupuncture or other procedures involving needles should ensure staff are trained under OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen standard (29 CFR 1910.1030), which requires documented annual training for staff with occupational exposure to blood or potentially infectious materials.
