Why Security Guards Need CPR, First Aid & BBP Training
By Sheila Gemma · February 23, 2026
Security personnel are frequently the first on scene at medical emergencies — cardiac events, injuries, altercations, and overdoses — across retail, commercial, residential, and event environments. Fast, effective response before EMS arrives can be the difference between a positive outcome and a tragedy.
California BSIS Continuing Education
The California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) accepts First Aid, CPR, and AED training as elective continuing education, with up to 4 hours applicable toward CE requirements. Most security employers and contract firms require current CPR and First Aid certification as a condition of employment.
AHA-Certified CPR & First Aid Training
Our AHA-certified instructors provide CPR and First Aid training covering cardiac emergency response, choking, trauma first aid, and AED use. Certifications are issued same-day, with official AHA eCards delivered digitally within a few days.
Common Emergencies in Security Settings
Security staff should be prepared to respond to sudden cardiac arrest, choking, severe bleeding from altercation injuries, overdose-related respiratory emergencies, and slip-and-fall injuries across the environments they patrol.
Bloodborne Pathogen Training
Security personnel who respond to injuries, altercations, or medical emergencies may encounter blood and other potentially infectious materials. OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogen standard requires documented annual BBP training for all designated first aid responders.
On-Site Training
We bring training to your facility, dispatch location, or client site and can schedule sessions to cover multiple shifts and teams efficiently.
